I wrote about the
box office on the blog yesterday, so trying to figure out what else
there is to write about became a full day activity. Most of the news
right now is negative… Cinea's DVD players are delayed in distribution,
apparently rejected by the studios as a tool so far… Team America
and Shall We Dance didn't open well… Fahrenheit 9/11 isn't
playing on Pay Per View the night before the election… Superman is an
unknown and the LA Film Critics are honoring Jerry Lewis. Yeah,
quite a weekend.
Let's hope something
more interesting happens as this week progresses...
READER
OF THE DAY: STELLA'S BOY writes: "Holy f*#king
sh@t! Team America is one stupid, stupid movie. I really expected more
from these guys. Michael Moore is fat? Wow, hadn't noticed. Never heard
that one before. Actors are full of themselves? Gee whiz, never knew
that either. Is non-stop profanity really supposed to be funny? Maybe
if you're a 13 year-old boy. I didn't find it offensive, just painfully
dumb and not even remotely funny. Gay jokes were tired years ago. That
is really the best these guys can do? Sure, the songs were amusing and
I am all for making fun of Bruckheimer movies. But did it all have to
be so obvious? I didn't laugh as much as you did, and apparently you
didn't laugh very often. I chuckled a few times, and by the hour mark
I was ready for it to be over. This is one terrible movie."
And this from WHOA
MAN: "I tried to see "Team America" this afternoon
(Sunday) at The Grove and it was totally packed and sold out in one
of the really big theaters (and thus, having arrived late, I didn't
see it). I don't see how it could have made so little for the weekend.
Personally, I think it will have more staying power than Len Klady thinks
-- especially the next two weekends before the election. I'll try again
during the week."
E-ME:
The most amazing thing about Team America is that it is not the political
film it is being made out to be. What's your favorite
or most hated mis-sell of recent years?
