What to write?
There is not a lot
to divine out of the WGA nods. The one thing to note is that Closer
has been left out again… except for the similar surprise that Finding
Neverland got left out too.
Naptime.
Liam Neeson
may be Spielberg's Lincoln… better than Ashton Kutcher, I guess,
Gunner Palace
is fighting for a PG-13, but won't *(%$@^ing get it.
The only thing left
to figure out in the Weinstein exit from Disney is how much they'll
be getting paid to leave… literally.
The only thing left
to figure out in the MGM acquisition by Sony is how to make The Pink
Panther a Revolution Films picture.
Don't think of it
as the next American Idol… think of it as a really public audition
for Bill Condon's Dreamgirls.
Jerry Lewis
did 15 strong minutes at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association dinner…
but still no special screening of The Day The Clown Cried.
It was strange being
at an awards event with neither Jamie Foxx or Clint Eastwood.
But the Sideways cast was there in full to make up for it.
This year, the big
question at Sundance will not only be what films must be acquired, but
which companies will actually be spending any money. Forget Miramax
and UA. What about Paramount Classics? Is Newmarket really in play?
Will they be conservative if anticipating a Paramount buy out? Warner
Indie will be in its second year at the fest. And will Harvey Weinstein
make a splash by acquiring something that isn't a Miramax purchase?
Yes... a nothing
week in industry news... let's hope the weekend brings more...
