Why am I writing
a column today?
Well, I guess I'm
not.
The town has felt
like it is in a holiday slumber all week. Junkets for mid-June started
happening a couple of weeks ago, getting things out of the way. Some
folks are in Cannes, which has turned out to be mostly a sleepy week
at the movies in France. Some folks are talking a 4, 5, or 6 day weekend.
Last weekend, I
started prepping today's column, but it was bout how f-ed up a lot of
things are. And frankly, I am in a mellow place and don't want to harsh
it with a lot of completely reasonable and accurate negativity. So I
won't.
If you are reading
this and you are going to go to the movies this weekend, go to an art
house. See The Proposition or Brick or Thank You For
Smoking or Clean or even An Inconvenient Truth (drink
some Red Bull and your sure to stay awake the whole time). The only
big movie out there even close to being worth paying for is X-Men:
The Last Stand.
Or read a book.
Or take a hike.
Or breathe a little
deeper.
We live in a country
that celebrates Memorial Day with big dumb movies, bbq, and little talk
about soldiers, even as so many people are in harms way in Iraq and
other places.
Give 'em a thought
or two while you are enjoying the weekend. And have a great one.

Me: What will you see this weekend?
